Telework Centers

Telework Centers provide the amenities of an office in locations away from a company’s main place of business. There are two types of telework centers:

  1. Satellite Work Center – This form of Telework Center is prevalent when a company decentralizes part of its operations to a remote location. Employees who commute to a satellite center normally live in a small geographic area near the remote site.
  2. Neighborhood Work Center – The Neighborhood Work Center leases or sells space to a number of different companies. The centers are equipped with telecommunications equipment, computers and supplies. Additionally, support services like clerical, photocopying, facsimile transmission and teleconferencing are available to all tenants.

How to use a Telework Center

  1. Company sets up remote office or leases space in an established center.
  2. Company conducts evaluation of staff and positions that are well suited for Telework Center assignments.
  3. Designated employees go through an orientation on telecommuting and participate in a walk-through of their new office in the center.
  4. Employees evaluate their equipment and supply needs.
  5. Managers make periodic visits to the center to see how employees are adapting and review their productivity.
  6. Following a pre-determined test period, an evaluation is made by both the managers and employees to gauge the success of the program.
